Materials:

Printed and Solid Fabric
Batting
Matte Board
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Elastic Lace
Small Cork

Read all instructions before you begin. Refer to photo and diagrams when needed
|
Sewing Box:
-
Cut one piece of matte board 11 inches long both ways and
3-1/2 inches wide on all four sides
(it will look like a "plus sign".)

Score on dotted lines. (Figure A)

Cut one piece of matte board 7-1/2 inches long both ways
and 1-1/2 inches wide on all four sides.
(a smaller "plus sign".)

Score on dotted lines. (Figure B)

Cut printed fabric to cover each matte board.
(See Figure A and Figure B) Have ending seams of fabric end up
on top of the matte board flaps and glue fabric to board.

Cut matte board into four 3 inch x 3-1/2 inch pieces.

Cut matte board into four 1-1/2 inch x 2-1/2 inch pieces. (Figure D)

Place one piece of batting on each top side (one side). Cover all eight
pieces with solid fabric.

Wrap elastic lace around the center of selected solid matte
board pieces. Glue ends of elastic lace to the backside of
matte board.

Glue backside of all solid fabric matte boards onto the top of each
Corresponding flap, covering the ending seams of the printed fabric
edges for a finished look.

Glue the bottom center square of smaller matte board to the
top center of the larger matte board.

Glue the small cork to top center square of smaller matte board.
This can be used as your thimble holder.

Fill your sewing box with, thread, tape measure,
scissors, buttons, needles, etc.

Lid:
Cut matte board 6-1/2 inches long both ways and 3-3/4 inches
wide on all four sides.
Score on dotted lines (Figure E)
Fold into a lid to fit top of sewing box.
Cover with printed fabric and one piece of batting to cover top and sides of lid. Glue to
matte board.
Cut a piece of matte board into 3-1/2 inch x 3-1/2 inch square. (Figure F) Cover with
fabric only (no batting). Apply glue to backside and insert into lid
for a finished look.

Base:
Cut matte board into a 4-1/2 inch x 4-1/2 inch square. (Figure G)
Cover with printed fabric and glue to bottom of sewing box.
