Helpful hint: Remember that the flag stripes alternate red and white,
and the outer stripes are always red. This will help when you align your strips.
  1. Cut 3- 36" pieces of red and 3- 36" pieces of white sheer ribbon.
  2. Slightly overlap long sides of one red and one white ribbon and sew using a straight or zigzag stitch with invisible thread.
  3. Continue to sew ribbon lengths, alternating colors as you go. This is the bottom half of the flag. (see illus.1)
  4. Cut 4- 23 1/2" pieces of red ribbon, 3- 23 1/2" pieces of white ribbon, and 7- 13 1/2" pieces of blue ribbon.
  5. Sew blue ribbon to the ends of the red and white ribbon, 1/2" seam.
  6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 being sure to keep all the blue strips aligned side by side. You are creating the top half of the flag with a blue field of stars. (see illus. 2)
  7. Slightly overlap the top section over the bottom section (See illus.3)
  8. Using invisible thread, sew gold gimpe around the edge of blue field, then sew gold gimpe around entire perimeter of flag starting at top corner. Fray check gimpe ends.
  9. Glue flag to dowel. See photo.
  10. . Wind and glue end of gold twist cord 3- 4 times around one end of dowel.
  11. . Wind and glue other end of cord around other end of dowel. This is your hanger.
  12. . Tie cord with tassels around each end of dowel.
  13. . Arrange stars in a circle over blue field; glue in place. See photo.
