| 1. Preparation: Cover table in work area with newspapers. Sand plaque. Ask an adult to help you position and glue wood square 5/8 above top center back of plaque. 2. Painting: Paint entire plaque (and wood square) with two coats black paint, letting dry between and after coats. 3. Fishing Paper: To cut fishing paper to fit plaque, position paper on top of plaque. Run finger along edge of top of plaque to crease paper. Remove paper and use scissors to cut along crease line. With foam brush, spread layer of decoupage medium on front flat surface. Reposition paper on plaque smoothing with hand to remove any air bubbles. When dry, you may cover the entire front, sides and back with the decoupage medium or apply decoupage medium around outer edge and back of plaque being careful to decoupage painted surfaces only. (For a more natural look, cover just the sides and back but not the paper.) Let dry. 4. Fishing Pole and Message: Position stick on plaque and plan where the words should go; lightly write in pencil and then rewrite with marker. Ask an adult to use glue gun to spot glue contact places between stick and plaque. Also ask an adult to use a craft knife to cut jute from both fish close to mouth opening, setting aside for later use, and use glue gun to attach side of one fish to wood shape on top of plaque. 5. Hook, Line and Bobber: Referring to Step 5 Illustration use needle nose pliers to bend wire into hook shape as shown. Tie fishing line to hook loop; cut off tail of fishing line. To make a bobber, put round bead on end of craft pick, dip one half of bead into white paint. Place bobber upright in a cup to dry. With white end up, thread bead onto fishing line with hook attached. Ask an adult to place a dot of glue gun glue 3/4 from hook and slide bead over glue 1/2 from hook. String seed bead on top of bead. Refer to photo to position fish on plaque. Complete fishing pole by tying fishing line to end of stick at the desired length and cut off excess. Ask an adult to vertically glue fish to plaque under hook. 6. Hanger: Tie knot in both ends of jute. Position and ask an adult to use glue gun to attach jute to back of plaque for hanger. |
